Does it feel like forever? Or just a blink in time?

In 6 months leaves fall from tree branches, and then snow melts away bringing fresh life. 12 episodes of Scandal air. 28,800 babies are born in Alberta. Seeds are planted leading to bountiful vegetable harvests.

In 6 months as a new parent you go from experiencing the incredible high of new love. To the low of when you wish you were still sleeping. Or re-sleeping. Or praying for daylight because that means the up-every-two-hours is over for the night. To the settling in of a comfortable routine with this full-of-personality human who has taken over your world and shown you new parts of yourself.

In 6 months your baby has drank enough wholesome milk to gain 10 pounds. His once wrinkly, flaky skin has developed into pudgy rolls that help prop him up.  His unstable neck is now strong and able to expertly track you around the whole room as you tidy up the toys he played with just this morning. And although he still cries every now and again, you’re excited at the possibility of words starting to form as he yells ma-ma and ba-ba at you from his bouncy chair.

Because 6 months matters. And although 20 years from now it will feel like in a blink in time, right now it’s your world. And it is a milestone worth documenting.
