Is there anything better than cracking open the spine of a big, beautiful book? It’s a feeling and sound that I absolutely love.
We live in this digital world where so much of what we read and see is pixels on screens, so there’s something to be said for tangible ink on paper.
The smell.
The feel.
The joy of flipping pages instead of swiping and tapping.
Every morning when I come down to our family room (and attempt to drink my coffee in 5 minutes of silence), I see my stack of beautiful books that live on our coffee table. I know that inside of those books is so much inspiration.
So, I’ve rounded up a few books that would be a great addition to anyone’s collection and would also make really great gifts. (Yes, I know that a book might not seem like an exciting gift, but if it’s done thoughtfully it really can be a timeless gift that’ll be appreciated.)
There’s no need to be a photographer to enjoy the gorgeous images hidden within these 4 books.
OBAMA: An Intimate Portrait by Pete Souza
My husband gave me this a few years ago and it’s one of my absolute favourite books. Pete Souza was Obama’s official photographer for 8 years, and he did such an excellent job of showing humanity and emotion within his documentary style photographs. The photos are in chronological order – some you’ll recognize and others will be new surprises.
Women: The National Geographic Image Collection
Some of the most iconic photographs of women from around the world by one of the best magazines on the planet. Enough said.
All-American Ads of the 90s
If you’re into photography and storytelling, and did your growing up in the 90s, then you’re going to enjoy this book! Some of the most iconic ads of the 90s will bring memories flooding back (Remember Benetton???) and shed a light on the social issues of the time.
In the Company of Women by Grace Bonney
Grace Bonney is the woman behind Design Sponge, which I’ve loyally read for many, many years. This collection of stories and portraits of entrepreneurs would make a great addition to any business woman’s collection.
