Just like with any art form, sometimes with photography you can feel like you’re in a bit of a slump or uninspired. I find inspiration in so many things, but there are times when my surroundings seem boring. This is why I love photographing families. I find my mind overflowing with ideas and all of a sudden everything seems new – because the people are usually new to me. The kids are interacting with the camera for the first time and I love seeing things through their eyes. It’s a new story for me to tell. But, with photos of my own life, it can sometimes become monotonous. You live in your house every single day, so it can be a challenge to find a new perspective or angle.
Last week I gave myself a little challenge to see my house in a different way and take photos from an angle that is new to me. The result was a personal photography project about viewing every day things from the inside out. It was a challenge every day to think of a new ‘thing’ to put my camera in, but I am really quite happy with the results. Sometimes all it takes to inspire creativity is to look at things from a new angle.
