When I arrived for our pre-session meeting in Sherwood Park with this family, I immediately knew that our session was going to be FUN. It was the day before Halloween, and in the middle of the living room was a very accurate replica of a train engine, including working tail lights. The train was Ben’s Halloween costume that he was going to wear to school the next day, and it was clear within the first 5 minutes of meeting him, that he was going to rule that school costume parade. We chatted about the upcoming session while final touches were put on the costume.

A couple of weeks later I arrived for our family session and we spent a few hours at their home wrestling on the bed, taking selfies (yes, really, and it was sort of the best!), and building the 2017 addition to the LEGO Christmas Village. The sessions was very relaxed and was all about the kids, which is exactly how a family session with 2 kids and 2 dogs should go.

Did you know that I often spend hours finding the perfect song to go with the photo slideshow? While I’m editing a session I’m thinking about the music and what type of song will fit the mood of the session. I chose this Ingrid Michaelson song as it just felt so right along with the photos. The funny thing is that when I sent the slideshow to this family, they immediately responded that the song I used was one of their all-time favourite songs. We’d never talked about music during the session, so I had no idea, but the fact that I was able to make that match made my whole week.
