I met Nora’s mama in the heat of August, in a trailer outside of Yo Mama Maternity. Really. She’d never met me before, yet she was trusting enough to climb into my trailer-turn-makeshift-studio to document her beautiful baby bump. I very clearly remember asking her to lay-down in the teeny little trailer and commenting on how I bet it was probably the first time she’d ever laid down in a trailer in the middle of a parking lot. (For the record, it was!) These are the crazy things photographers do! Thankfully she laughed with me and it all worked out – so much so that she trusted me enough to contact me again for photos after little Nora was born.
There’s really nothing I like more than seeing clients again. I always look forward to hearing how life has changed, how parenthood is different than what they expected and how they can’t imagine life without baby. Nora was more than a month old when we connected again, and her Mom’s email to me said that although they hadn’t planned on newborn photos, they realized a little belatedly that they wanted to capture these fleeting moments.
Nora was 8 weeks old at the time of the session, and even though she wasn’t super tolerant of being put down or getting dressed, she was an absolute star for her moment in the spotlight. She was even sleeping soundly in her crib all swaddled up when I left – a feat her parents told me had never happened before!
I received this amazing reply after I sent the full gallery and slideshow to her parents:
“We weren’t sure about getting photos done but we didn’t want to regret not doing them either – there’s definitely no regret now! You were so easy to work with and helped to put us at ease. We’re glad we were able to do this at home too where it felt like there was less pressure to make sure Nora was in a good mood 🙂 And you’re right! These are definitely different from traditional newborn photos since you were able to capture Nora’s intense stare and her smiles – things that might not have happened if she were younger. I love them!”
Thank you so much H & C for trusting me to capture this time in your lives.
