As a kid, I remember visiting so many museums and campgrounds, and stopping at random little towns to have ice cream, and am so excited that our girls are now old enough that we’re able to do some of these things with them (and now even without diapers and all the supplies that babies need!!).

My husband was lucky enough to get a few weeks of holidays in the middle of August and we spent it as a family travelling around and exploring all that Alberta has to offer. We had a few nights at Pigeon Lake in a yurt (again), came home for a night, and then packed up and headed out on a trip to the mountains.

The first stop was at the Pembina River provincial park, which hands down, the favourite part of our trip – how have I never been there? If you’ve never been, you must go. I loved it so much that I think I might have to set up a few evenings of river sessions there next year! The river was quiet, the light glorious and the kids were just so happy to move rocks around for hours. We risked getting one of the first come first serve camping spots and I think we actually lucked out with one of the best sites in the whole campground.

The next morning we packed up and headed to Jasper, where we stayed at an awesome Air BnB (Yay for the kids having their own room!). The smoke from the BC fires had just come in the day before, and we couldn’t actually see many of the mountains, but we still had fun exploring the town, Pyramid Lake and Jasper Lake.
