I love doing sessions all year long, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have soft spot for fall. Especially here in Alberta, where it can be unpredictable, so you have to savour the orange and yellow foliage every day, because the next day it could be gone. Like this year, when we were welcomed with a snow storm just a week after this session….and now we are back in a heat wave (well, one by Alberta standards!). So the fact that we managed to capture a picture perfect Edmonton autumn for this family (their first in Alberta as a family), makes me pretty darn happy!

The morning was a super casual one that started inside with toys scattered and then cleaned up (over and over, because you know…toddlers), some creative art involving SO MANY sequins, and then moved outside for a walk/ride down into the ravine. It was cold and chilly outside, so we didn’t last as long as we thought we would outside, but changed gears quickly and ended our time together inside hanging out as a family on the bed. Really, I have yet to photograph a family where hanging out on the bed doesn’t result in some of my favourite images from the session – this photo session is no exception! Plus, that’s the beauty of a more documentary based session. If things don’t go exactly as planned, we adjust quickly and it usually winds up being even better!

I went into this session with the goal of capturing the love that these parents have for their children, even if it’s a totally hectic times in their lives that is full of challenges. It didn’t take much for it to be clear that almost every photo was going to show that love as it was so abundant.
