Not to get too cliche on you, but seriously, once you have a baby, time really does stand still and fly by all at the same time. I truly didn’t understand this until I was in the thick of motherhood. Sometimes it can feel like you’ve been trying to get your kid to nap for the last 16 hours (and maybe you have!), but you also have no idea how you went from being pregnant to having a year old baby who is walking (no longer an infant!) in what feels like 5 minutes.
It’s a surreal thing and one that almost every set of parents I have spoken to have encountered. Once you have a 1-year-old, it almost unfathomable that you once had a tiny newborn who could lay in that space between your hand and your elbow. Going from sitting on the couch feeding this baby for what felt like ALL day to working full time and chasing a kid who is trying to eat out of the dog dish is an experience that can never be re-lived.
This is why baby photo sessions in the first year are so special. I call them milestone sessions – they’re to capture your baby’s milestones (head lifting, sitting, standing, walking), but also to celebrate YOUR milestones (sleeping, feeling like you’ve got this, drinking hot coffee again).
Milestone photo sessions are available after a newborn session is booked as either single sessions or groups of 3.
Here are 3 reasons that baby milestone photo sessions are a great idea:
With each set of sessions, I always try to create a few images that we closely replicate so that you can truly see the changes in your baby. It’s one thing to know your baby has grown exponentially. It’s a completely different thing to see it.
When your baby is first born it’s a 1-way street. You do everything for your baby and get very little in return. But then, the traffic flow changes a bit and slowly you get smiles, then giggles, then HUGS. (Seriously, if you haven’t had a hug yet when your kid actually wraps his little arms around your neck, just wait! It makes every sleepless night feel like a foggy memory.) Milestone sessions are able to document that change in relationships between you, your partner and your baby.
They’re called milestone sessions for a reason! Babies hit some pretty incredible marks in that first year and it’s really fun to be able to have them captured forever. Because at one point, lifting her head will seem SO exciting, but then that’ll pass and she’ll be crawling.
